*Effeminate Flight

Dionysus would be jealous
Of such a night
Filled with birds in flight
All bright as a blooming peacock astray.

“I am the hawk,” she says
Flying in the chilled night
Searching for the strong bough
Of a tree
It is in sight resounding beyond the Cedar;
So she lowers her head focusing her eyes
One needle at a time
Within the juniper pine
Surpassing time
Finding feet perched on its base
Nestled at the trunk . . .
